Lot 36: George III Style Mahogany Serpentine Pedestal Desk with Leather Inset Top

A mahogany pedestal desk constructed in the George III serpentine style. The piece features a curved, serpentine-fronted top inset with a dark leather writing surface, decorated with a gold-tooled foliate border. The desk is configured with a central frieze drawer above a recessed kneehole, flanked by two pedestals. Each pedestal contains four graduated drawers, providing a total of nine drawers. The drawer fronts are finished with flame mahogany veneers and cross-banded edges. Each drawer is fitted with a pair of brass swan-neck handles mounted on shaped backplates, and the central drawer is equipped with a brass keyhole escutcheon. The desk is supported on bracket feet. No maker’s marks, labels, or stamps were identified during inspection.
