In a flat the questions are the floor, whether there is a lift and where a van can stop. In a semi they are usually how much has built up over the years, and whether any of it is worth valuing first. Mark, who has over 45 years in the antiques trade, gives free verbal valuations. We look at furniture, glassware, jewellery, pottery and ceramics, pictures and prints, toys, silver, militaria and collectables.
Tell us about access on the quote form, and send a photo of the front door and the stairs if you have one.
The Prime Minister’s town hall
Morley Town Hall is Grade I listed and has a Victorian concert hall, a courtroom and holding cells. It was opened in October 1895 by H. H. Asquith, the Home Secretary, who had been born in Morley in 1852 into a family of cloth manufacturers. He was Prime Minister from 1908 to 1916, and accepted the Freedom of the Borough of Morley in 1913.

Which council covers Drighlington, Rothwell and Gildersome?
Morley, Churwell and Gildersome (LS27), Beeston (LS11), and Middleton, Belle Isle and Hunslet (LS10) are all in the Leeds City Council area. So is Drighlington, even though its postcode starts BD: BD11 is shared between Leeds, Bradford and Kirklees, and Drighlington is the part in Leeds. Rothwell is Leeds too, but LS26 also reaches into Wakefield district.
Birstall, over the border to the west, is Kirklees; see our page on house clearance in Dewsbury and Batley. Tingley and East Ardsley are covered on the Wakefield page. Tips and bulky collections follow the council, so the Council Tax bill is the surest guide.
Which Leeds tip, and the bulky collection
Leeds has no household waste site in Morley itself. On the council’s list, the two on the south and west side are Holme Well Road, Middleton (LS10 4TQ) and Richardshaw Road, Pudsey (LS28 6LG). Both are open seven days a week, 8am to 6pm until 25 October 2026 and 8am to 4pm from 26 October to 28 March 2027.
You can go by car or bicycle. A van, a four-wheel-drive pick-up or a vehicle towing a trailer needs a separate commercial permit, and nobody can walk in. Leeds warns that “if you bring trade or business waste to a household waste recycling centre you could be fined or imprisoned”.
For furniture the council offers one free bulky collection per household per financial year, with further collections charged. Items are collected from outside the property, so it helps for a few pieces and not for a whole house. It will not tell you whether any of the pieces were worth selling.

How far is it from our saleroom?
Morley town centre is about 3 miles from the saleroom as the crow flies and 5 miles by road, mostly along the Leeds ring road (A6110). Beeston and Churwell are nearer, and Rothwell is the furthest of these places at 8 miles by road. Larger items going to auction are collected free (some exceptions, depending on the item and where it is), so give us the postcode when you ring.
After a death in Morley or south Leeds
Leeds registers deaths by appointment. You wait for the registrars to contact you once the medical certificate reaches them, and they send a link to book. The council says the death should be registered “within 5 days of receiving notification from the registrars”. The main office is Leeds Register Office at Merrion House, 110 Merrion Way (LS2 8BB), and the council also lists offices in Morley and at St George’s in Middleton, with fewer appointments. The line is 0113 222 4408.
If a will or an estate is involved, our page on probate house clearance explains how a valuation and a clearance fit around the grant. GOV.UK says not to put property on the market until you have probate. Most people apply online, and the nearest registry for anything in person is Leeds District Probate Registry on York Place.

How the clearance works
Anything that will sell goes into our fortnightly Saturday auction in Armley, and the proceeds come back to you after fees; what won’t sell is cleared responsibly or donated. A clearance is chargeable, but what sells may cover or reduce the cost. Read how our clearance works.
Questions about clearing a house in Morley and south Leeds
Mum’s house is in Drighlington, but the postcode is BD11. Which council’s rules apply?
Drighlington is in the Leeds City Council area, so the Leeds tips and bulky collection apply. The postcode is the confusing part, because BD11 also covers Birkenshaw in Kirklees and parts of Bradford. If you are unsure, check which council sends the Council Tax bill.
The flat in Hunslet is on an upper floor. Does that change anything?
It changes the planning, not the question. Tell us the floor, whether there is a lift and where a van can stop, on the quote form or when you ring. A photo of the stairs helps. We cannot promise a time or a price until we know how the items will come out.
Leeds gives one free bulky collection a year. Is that enough to clear a house?
Probably not for a whole house. The council collects from outside the property, so everything has to be carried out first, and it does not value or sell anything. It can suit a few unwanted pieces. If there is furniture, china or silver you think might be worth something, ring Mark on 07764 405701 for a free verbal valuation first.
