What should I do with furniture I can’t take?
Start with a free verbal valuation, so you know what is worth selling. What will sell can go into our fortnightly Saturday auction, and what won’t sell can be cleared or donated.
Larger items going to auction are collected free, with some exceptions depending on the item and where it is. Smaller items can be brought to the saleroom by appointment. To talk it through, ring Mark on 07764 405701 or the office on 0113 250 2626.
Is my furniture worth anything at auction?
It depends on the piece. Some furniture sells and some doesn’t, and the way to find out is to ask. Mark has over 45 years’ experience in the antiques trade, and verbal valuations are free.
Upholstered furniture needs its fire-safety label
Sofas and armchairs can only be sold at auction with the label still attached, which follows the Furniture and Furnishings (Fire) (Safety) Regulations 1988. If a label is missing, mention it when you call.
Fitting the clearance around your move
Clearances can be booked at a time that suits you. Tell us when you need the place empty and we can talk through what is possible.
If you only need some rooms or particular pieces cleared, that is a part house clearance. A clearance is chargeable, but the cost may be covered or reduced by what sells at auction.
When a parent is moving into care
It is the same service. We value what is not going with them, sell what will sell and clear the rest. Often a son or daughter is arranging it, and you are welcome to ring on their behalf.
There is a note on council tax in the questions below.
Bringing a few things in yourself
You can bring smaller items to the saleroom at Unit 1, Old Corporation Yard, 281 Tong Road, Armley, Leeds, LS12 4NQ. Please ring first: we are open Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, by appointment only.

Questions about downsizing
Can the clearance fit around my moving date?
Clearances can be booked at a time that suits you. Ring the office on 0113 250 2626 with your dates and we can talk through what is possible.
Does council tax change when a parent moves into care?
It can. GOV.UK says some homes do not get a Council Tax bill for as long as they stay empty, including the home of someone who has moved into a care home or hospital (GOV.UK, empty properties). Check with the council about your own circumstances.
