How do I register to bid?

You need to register before you can bid. Register on our website at Your account. This is the only way to register to bid.

Registration asks for your name, email address, password and country.

Can I see the lots first?

Yes. View them at the saleroom on the Friday before the sale, 10am to 4pm. There is no viewing on sale day. The catalogue, with estimates and photographs, goes online on the Wednesday and Thursday evenings before the sale. See Upcoming auctions.

If you can’t get here, remote buyers can ask for a condition report (see the questions below).

How does bidding work on the day?

Sales are online. Bid live online from 12:30 on Saturday, or leave an absentee bid through this website or by contacting the office. With an absentee bid, give your full contact details, including your email address and telephone number, and check that they’re correct.

Winning bids are legally binding.

How do I know if I’ve won?

To find out how your bids went, ring 0113 250 2626 on the Monday morning after the sale.

How do I pay?

Pay by cash, bank transfer or card. The options for your purchase are stated on your invoice. Once an invoice has been issued, payment is due in full without delay, and you need to have paid before you collect. Non-payment may mean suspension from future auctions.

How do I collect what I’ve won?

Collect Monday to Wednesday after the sale; other days by appointment on 0113 250 2626. The saleroom isn’t open for collections on sale day.

Check your goods before they leave. Once an item has left the saleroom we can’t resolve discrepancies, and no refunds are given. Our buyer terms explain what happens to goods that aren’t collected.

Can you post things to me?

If we post an item for you, it travels at your own risk. We can’t be held liable for damage in transit, particularly to fragile items such as pottery, ceramics, glassware and framed artwork, which are often not covered by courier insurance. You may want to arrange your own insurance.

Questions about buying

Can I ask for a condition report?

Yes, for remote buyers, on request. Condition reports are given in good faith to help you decide, but they are not a guarantee. Ask the office on 0113 250 2626.

Can I test gold jewellery at viewing?

Not with an acid test. Jewellery can be inspected on request, one item at a time, but acid testing isn’t permitted on any jewellery because the items stay the property of our vendors until they are sold. We make every effort to verify authenticity but can’t guarantee item descriptions, so the decision to buy is yours.

Can children come to viewing?

Children under the age of 14 “are not permitted to attend the auction”. Those aged 14 to 18 “must be accompanied by a responsible adult at all times during viewing and sale days”.
