An Assortment of Glazed Ceramic Bird and Kitten figurines including Beswick
Description
A collection of seven glazed ceramic figurines comprising three kittens and four birds. The kittens are rendered in a pale grey and white palette with dark grey accents to the ears, tails, and paws, depicted in various seated and grooming poses. The bird figurines are realistically modelled and perched on stylized tree-stump bases; these include a yellow and brown songbird, a bird with a black head and orange breast, a European Robin, and a bird with wings partially spread featuring yellow head markings. One bird figurine bears a green and gold foil label on the front of its base reading BESWICK in a curved format above ENGLAND. A larger figurine base, viewed from the underside in a mirror reflection, shows a black stamped or printed mark consisting of a rectangle with a diagonal line through it, alongside blue hand-painted markings that appear to read Ξ 0 =. A further painted mark in black script is visible on the edge of a base in image 2, though the characters are not clearly legible as a name.
