A Pair of Art Deco Clarice Cliff Biarritz Banded Ware Plates for Royal Staffordshire
Description
A pair of cream earthenware plates in The Biarritz form, designed by Clarice Cliff for Royal Staffordshire Pottery (A.J. Wilkinson Ltd). Each square plate is designed with an off-centre circular well. The minimalist geometric decoration consists of a multi-coloured banded arc in red, yellow, and blue bordering the well, and a vertical tri-colour band in green, yellow, and blue along one outer edge. The underside of each plate bears a printed backstamp in black featuring a crown emblem and the text: The Biarritz, Royal Staffordshire, Great Britain, Regd. No. 784849, Bizarre by Clarice Cliff. The registration number indicates the design was registered circa 1933.
