Hamburg Hanseatic Cross 1914
Description
An Imperial German World War I Hanseatic Cross (Hanseatenkreuz) for the city of Hamburg. The decoration is a silvered metal cross pattée featuring translucent red enamel over an engine-turned ground on the obverse arms. The obverse central circular medallion displays the silvered coat of arms of Hamburg, depicting a castle with three towers. The reverse of the cross is plain silvered metal with a central circular medallion bearing the German inscription Für Verdienst im Kriege 1914. The award is suspended from its original white silk ribbon which features two broad red stripes at the edges.
