Description
A French military award, the Croix de Guerre, manufactured in bronze and issued during the First World War. The medal is constructed in the form of a Maltese cross with crossed swords positioned between the arms. The obverse features a central circular medallion depicting the profile of Marianne, the national symbol of France, wearing a Phrygian cap, surrounded by the inscription REPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE. The reverse central medallion is inscribed with the dates 1914 and 1917, designating the period of service for which the award was conferred. The medal is suspended from a fabric ribbon featuring vertical red stripes on a yellow background, a pattern typically associated with the French Médaille Militaire.
