Imperial Prussian Pilots Badge
Description
An Imperial German Prussian Pilots Qualification Badge (Flugzeugführerabzeichen) dating from the First World War period, circa 1913-1918. The badge is of oval form, featuring a central relief scene of a Taube-style monoplane flying over a hilly landscape with a small village. This central motif is enclosed within a wreath comprising laurel leaves to the left and oak leaves to the right, joined at the base by a tied ribbon bow. The badge is surmounted by the Prussian royal crown. It is struck in a base metal alloy, likely tombac, with remnants of its original silvered finish. The reverse is flat-backed and fitted with a vertical needle-style pin, a block hinge, and a simple hook catch. No maker’s marks or stamps are visible.
