German WWII Kriegsmarine Minesweeper War Badge by F.W. Assmann and Söhne
Description
A Second World War German Kriegsmarine Minesweeper, Sub-Marine-Hunt, and Escort-Vessel War Badge (Kriegsabzeichen für Minensuch-, U-Boot-Jagd- und Sicherungsverbände). The badge is of solid-back construction, manufactured from zinc. The obverse features an oval oak leaf wreath surmounted by a national eagle with outstretched wings clutching a swastika, with a central motif depicting a stylised waterspout representing an exploding sea mine. The reverse bears the raised maker mark of a stylised letter A within a circle, identifying the manufacturer as F.W. Assmann and Söhne, Lüdenscheid. It is fitted with a vertical iron pin and hinge assembly, along with a small stabilising hook behind the eagle’s head intended to secure the badge to a uniform.
