A Second World War Air Crew Europe Star Campaign Medal
Description
This is a British Second World War campaign medal known as the Air Crew Europe Star. The award is a six-pointed bronze star. The obverse features the Royal Cypher of King George VI, GRI VI, surmounted by a crown and surrounded by a circular band inscribed THE AIR CREW EUROPE STAR. The reverse of the medal is plain and unnamed, as is standard for British issues of this period. The medal is suspended from its original silk ribbon which consists of a wide light blue centre band flanked by narrow yellow stripes and wide black borders. Attached to the ribbon is a silver-toned badge depicting the Royal Air Force insignia of an eagle in flight surmounted by a crown, which appears to be a private addition or sweetheart badge. A small paper tag is attached to the ribbon with the handwritten number 9703.
