Victorian India Medal 1895-1902 with Punjab Frontier 1897-98 Clasp
Description
A Victorian India Medal (1895-1902), silver issue, awarded for service on the North-West Frontier. The obverse features the veiled ‘Old Head’ profile of Queen Victoria facing left, with the inscription VICTORIA REGINA ET IMPERATRIX. The reverse depicts a British and an Indian soldier standing side-by-side, jointly supporting a standard, with the inscription INDIA 1895 at the base. The medal is fitted with a single silver clasp for PUNJAB FRONTIER 1897-98 and an ornate swivel scroll suspension. It is suspended from its correct crimson and green striped silk ribbon, featuring three red and two green stripes. The edge of the medal is officially impressed with the recipient’s details: PTE M. [partially legible] 1ST BN. [partially legible].
