A Group of Second World War British Miniature Dress Medals
Description
A group of British miniature medals from the Second World War, swing-mounted on a metal brooch bar for formal evening wear. The group comprises four bronze six-pointed stars and two circular medals. The stars are identified as the 1939-1945 Star, the Africa Star, the Italy Star, and the France and Germany Star. The Africa Star is fitted with a miniature clasp bearing the inscription NORTH AFRICA 1942-43. The circular medals consist of the Defence Medal and the War Medal 1939-1945. The obverse of the circular medals features the profile of King George VI with the circumscription GEORGIVS VI D: G: BR: OMN: REX ET INDIAE IMP. The medals are suspended from their respective silk ribbons, which are arranged in the official order of wear. The reverse of the mounting bar features a standard pin and hook fastening. A small white adhesive label with the handwritten number 9703 is present on the reverse of the first ribbon.
