Lot 62: A Pair of Neoclassical Painted and Gilt Wood Architectural Columns
2 views
A pair of turned wood architectural columns or pedestals in the Neoclassical style. Each element features a square plinth base with a vertical mortise slot, rising to a turned circular torus and scotia moulding, a tapering circular shaft, and a stepped square capital. The surfaces are finished in distressed cream-coloured paint over gesso, highlighted with painted and gilded accents along the mouldings and capital blocks. The capital of one column retains a projecting metal screw fixing, with an aperture for hardware to the corresponding post.
