Lot 319: A trio of Chinese archaistic bronze-style vessels and a seated Buddha figure
0 views
This lot comprises three cast metal decorative objects featuring varied finishes and traditional Asian motifs. The first item is a seated figure of Buddha depicted in a variant of the bhumisparsha mudra, or earth-touching gesture. The figure displays characteristic features including an ushnisha, elongated earlobes, and draped robes. It is cast from a copper-based alloy with a dark brown patina and remnants of a yellow-toned finish in the recessed areas. The second item is an archaistic tripod wine vessel, or jue, featuring a long spout, an opposing tail-like projection, and two capped posts at the rim. The exterior is decorated with a central band of relief-cast archaistic zoomorphic masks against a leiwen thunder pattern background, finished in a pale golden-bronze colour. The third item is a baluster-shaped archaistic vase with two zoomorphic handles, decorated with geometric scrollwork in horizontal registers. This piece features a heavy applied green-toned finish intended to simulate malachite or cuprite mineral corrosion. A white adhesive inventory label is attached to the jue vessel, which reads SHELBYS AUCTIONEERS LOT 319. Another partial white label is visible nearby reading 35.
