Lot 266: A Group of Blue and White Ceramic Tableware
1 view
A collection of blue and white ceramic tableware of various styles and patterns. The group includes several jugs and pitchers, including a large floral transfer-printed pitcher with a scalloped rim, a bulbous jug with trailing blue flowers, and a tall pitcher with a light blue floral design. Two items feature a dense blue sponged or mottled pattern, including a large jug and a matching small creamer.
A scalloped rim plate and six matching napkin rings are decorated with a hand-painted geometric and foliate pattern in the Thai stoneware style. Also included is a stack of four bowls with a central floral motif and decorative border, an ovoid vase with scrolled decoration, and several assorted creamers and jugs with floral transfer-prints. A small circular white pot with a recessed rim is present, which appears to be missing its lid.
The ceramics exhibit different production techniques, including transfer-printing and hand-painting. A small ovoid vase bears a blue printed rim and a white adhesive label on the shoulder with handwritten characters reading 2935 over 0. A larger pitcher features a white rectangular adhesive label on the interior rim with printed text reading SHELLEYS AUCTIONEERS followed by LOT 266. No other marks or makers’ names are legible.
