A solid sterling silver footed bowl of elongated navette form, exhibiting Art Deco style design influences. The vessel features a wide, shallow body with an applied Celtic-style knotwork border to the rim. It is flanked by two angular, stepped handles, each decorated with a central floral boss. The bowl is supported by a conforming oval pedestal foot. The interior of the bowl bears a set of four British hallmarks: a shield-shaped punch containing the characters V S &, a circular punch with a leopard’s head for the London Assay Office, a lion passant mark signifying .925 sterling silver, and a capital letter M in a clipped-corner rectangular punch corresponding to the year 1986. The exterior is engraved with a commemorative inscription in mixed script and block lettering: PRESENTED TO Stanley Carlisle to mark the occasion of his retirement from PARKLAND TEXTILE (HOLDINGS) plc 1st AUGUST 1989. Two adhesive labels are present on the interior: a white rectangular label printed SHELBYS AUCTIONEERS LOT 144 01132502626 and a smaller white label with handwritten ink characters 12935 D.
