A Singer Sphinx pattern enamelled cast iron sewing machine head
Description
A vintage sewing machine head manufactured from black enamelled cast iron. The arm and base are decorated with Egyptian-themed gilt decals in the Sphinx (also known as Memphis) pattern, featuring a seated sphinx amidst ornate lotus flowers and geometric borders. The top of the arm bears the name SINGER in large, stylized gilt block letters. The side of the arm features a printed gilt inscription reading The Singer Manufacturing Co. The machine is fitted with a spoked handwheel and an integrated bobbin winder mechanism. A metal faceplate is present at the needle bar end.
