A Large Chinese Bronze style resin Figure of a Warrior on a Rearing Horse
Description
A substantial cast bronze sculpture depicting a Chinese military official or deity, possibly representing Guan Yu, in a dynamic equestrian pose. The figure is portrayed in full ceremonial armour with elaborate high-relief decoration, featuring a dragon-crested helmet and four traditional kao battle flags secured to the rear of the cuirass. The warrior holds a removable long-handled polearm or guandao in the right hand. The horse is modelled in a spirited rearing stance, supported by a base cast to resemble turbulent clouds and rocky outcrops. The surface is finished with a deep brown patination, highlighting the intricate zoomorphic motifs and scrollwork throughout the horse trappings and the figure’s attire. The base features cast characters on the vertical front surface, though these are not legible. A small white rectangular label with black printed text and handwritten numbers is adhered to the side of the horse’s flank, and a separate small white square label with a handwritten number is adhered to the upper rear leg of the horse.
