A Bronze Finished resin Figure of Nike in a Two Horse Chariot
Description
A cast metal sculpture finished in a dark bronze patina, depicting the Greek goddess Nike driving a biga, a Roman-style two-horse chariot. The winged figure stands upright in the chariot, holding a set of wire reins and a standard topped with a wreathed eagle. The chariot is decorated with relief scrollwork to the side panels and a patterned rim. The two horses are modelled in a rearing posture with decorative harnesses featuring medallion accents. The entire group is set upon a base cast to resemble rocky ground. The piece is constructed with metallic gold-tone highlights to the standard, harness, and chariot borders. There are no maker’s marks, signatures, or country-of-origin marks visible on the sculpture. A small adhesive white label is present on the side of one horse, bearing the hand-written characters 12912 over the letter D.
