A Set of Six Oak Ladder-Back Dining Chairs
Description
A set of six oak ladder-back dining chairs, comprising four side chairs and two armchairs. Each chair back features five horizontal wavy-edged slats positioned between turned uprights. The frames are constructed from oak with a rich medium-to-dark brown finish using traditional mortise and tenon joinery. The design incorporates decorative bobbin-turned front legs and front stretchers, contrasted by square-section rear legs and side/back stretchers. Each chair is fitted with a fixed, padded seat upholstered in a dark red textured chenille-style fabric. These chairs are designed in the traditional Northern English country style, characteristic of the Lancashire or Cheshire ladder-back tradition, and are late 19th or early 20th-century revivals of earlier 18th-century designs. No maker marks or labels are visible on the items.
