Lot 70:
A mid-20th-century oak Welsh dresser in the Jacobean Revival style
Description
This oak Welsh dresser is designed in the Jacobean or Tudor Revival style, characteristic of mid-20th-century British furniture manufacture. The piece is constructed in two sections. The upper plate rack features a decoratively scalloped frieze over two open shelves, each with recessed plate grooves for the display of tableware. The lower sideboard section comprises a rectangular top surface over three frieze drawers. Below the drawers are three cupboard doors, each decorated with carved linen-fold (parchment-fold) panels. The unit is fitted with darkened metal drop-ring handles and decorative butterfly-style hinges. The entire piece is supported on a solid plinth base. While no maker’s marks are visible, the design, hardware, and linen-fold carving are highly consistent with the style of manufacturers such as Wood Brothers (Old Charm) and Jaycee.
