Description

An early 20th-century oak fall-front bureau, likely of British manufacture, circa 1920s-1930s. The piece is constructed with oak and features prominent decorative figured veneers. The fall front displays strong medullary rays characteristic of quartersawn tiger oak, framed within a crossbanded border. Positioned below the slant top is a single long drawer fitted with two brass-style drop handles and a central keyhole. The lower section comprises a double cupboard with door panels featuring diamond-matched oak grain patterns and small circular metal pulls. The unit is supported by four small turned bun feet. As the bureau is shown in the closed position, the configuration of the interior pigeonholes and the condition of the writing surface cannot be confirmed. No maker’s marks, labels, or stamps are visible.
