Two Nineteenth Century English Ceramic Vessels comprising a Lidded Tureen and a Blue and White Pitcher
Description
This lot consists of two pieces of nineteenth-century earthenware. The first is a large lidded vessel of ovoid form featuring twin scrolled handles and a domed lid surmounted by a gilded flower-bud finial. The piece is decorated with a transfer-printed geometric border in ochre and black tones, complemented by hand-painted or stencilled gold leaf motifs. A paper auction label with the number 8426 is adhered to the body. The second item is a blue and white transfer-printed pitcher of bulbous form with a scalloped rim, scrolled handle, and pedestal foot. The decoration depicts a pastoral landscape with buildings and trees, framed by dense floral and lace-patterned borders around the neck and spout. No maker’s marks are visible on either piece.
