Description

This is a British First World War Victory Medal, officially impressed on the rim with the recipient’s service number, rank, name, and regiment. The obverse features the standing figure of Victory holding a palm branch in her right hand. The reverse is inscribed with the words THE GREAT WAR FOR CIVILISATION 1914-1919 encircled by a laurel wreath. The medal is suspended from its original double-rainbow silk ribbon. Affixed to the ribbon is a bronze oak leaf emblem, which signifies that the recipient was Mentioned in Despatches for gallant or meritorious action during the conflict. The naming on the rim reads 17360 PTE. R. TAYLOR. YORKS. L.I., identifying the recipient as Private R. Taylor of the Yorkshire Light Infantry (King’s Own Yorkshire Light Infantry). The medal is accompanied by a small paper tag numbered 9703 and a handwritten identification card inside a protective plastic sleeve.
