A Second World War German 1939 Pattern Wound Badge in Black
Description
This is a 1939 pattern German Wound Badge in Black (Verwundetenabzeichen in Schwarz). The badge is of die-struck, hollow-back construction, manufactured from sheet steel. The obverse features a central M35-style helmet with a swastika at its centre, superimposed over two crossed swords. This central motif is set against a pebbled background and enclosed within an oval laurel leaf wreath. The reverse is hollow-stamped and retains its original vertical needle-style pin, hinge, and C-catch. There are no legible manufacturer marks or stamps visible on the reverse. This grade of badge was awarded to military personnel for one or two wounds sustained in action.
