George III Style Chippendale Mahogany Highboy Chest on Chest
Description
This mahogany chest-on-chest is designed in the George III Chippendale style, consistent with high-quality 20th-century furniture manufacturers. The piece is constructed in two sections. The upper section features a broken swan-neck pediment with three turned and carved finials. The top tier of the upper carcass contains two short drawers flanking a central small drawer with a deeply carved shell motif. Below these are three full-width graduated drawers. The upper carcass is flanked by pilasters featuring blind-fretwork carving. The lower section contains three graduated drawers. The base is finished with a shaped apron featuring a central carved shell motif, supported by four cabriole legs with acanthus leaf carving on the knees, terminating in ball-and-claw feet. The piece is fitted with ornate brass batwing bale handles and matching keyhole escutcheons. The primary timber is mahogany. Drawer construction details and secondary woods are not visible from the exterior. A small white inventory label is present on one of the upper drawers.
