Lot 180:
Late 20th Century, Stained Hardwood, Lutyens-Style Garden Bench
Description
A late 20th-century garden bench constructed from stained hardwood, likely eucalyptus or teak, designed in the iconic style of Sir Edwin Lutyens. The construction features a highly ornate backrest with a central arched panel and lattice slats, flanked by decoratively shaped crest rails. The bench is fitted with deeply curved, scrolled armrests and a seat comprised of longitudinal wooden slats. The base is supported by square-section legs with a central H-stretcher, utilising mortise and tenon joinery throughout. There is no upholstery, as the piece features a traditional slatted wooden seat. 105cm x 130cm x 52cm.
Condition report:
The structure is solid and in good condition. The dark mahogany-toned finish shows signs of light weathering and surface wear consistent with outdoor use, with some visible greenish discolouration on the lower front stretcher suggesting past exposure to moisture. There is no upholstery to report. No major repairs or structural damage are evident. A small inventory sticker is present on the backrest.
