Lot 315: Two Alabaster Busts of Classical and Renaissance Figures
0 views
These two busts are carved from a cream-coloured soft stone, likely alabaster. The first sculpture is a classical female bust, a reduction after the Venus de Milo. The figure is depicted with a bare torso and traditional Greco-Roman hairstyle, with wavy hair gathered at the nape. This piece is integral to its turned circular socle base. Incised characters are visible on the right shoulder area, reading VENUS DE MILO. The second sculpture depicts a male figure in 15th-century costume, featuring a chaperon headgear and a high-collared tunic with a central line of small buttons. This bust is mounted on a separate, stepped rectangular plinth made of a dark-toned material, possibly ebonised wood or black stone. A white rectangular adhesive label is present on the front of the male figure, reading 12935 and a single character below.
