Lot 268: A Wedgwood Mayfield Ruby Pattern Dinner Service

A multi-piece earthenware dinner service in the Mayfield pattern. The service is constructed from cream-coloured earthenware, decorated with transfer-printed floral sprays featuring red poppies and green foliage, set within a broad ruby-red border.

The underside of a plate (photo 2) bears a printed mark in red and green; a red arc reads MAYFIELD above green characters for WEDGWOOD, MADE IN ENGLAND, and BARLASTON. An impressed mark is also present on the base, appearing as 7 T and a partially obscured character resembling a 5 or S.

The service comprises a collection of plates and serving pieces, including dinner plates, rimmed bowls, side plates, a large oval serving platter, a gravy boat with an integrated underplate, and two circular lidded tureens with red finial knobs.
