Lot 259: A Collection of 19th and Early 20th Century Blue and White Transfer-Printed Earthenware and Ironstone Ceramics
1 view
A collection of blue and white glazed ceramic ware, consisting of earthenware and ironstone pieces in various transfer-printed patterns. The group includes items for dining, tea service, and decorative use, many exhibiting the flow blue aesthetic where pigment has blurred into the glaze.
The collection features:
– A large circular wash bowl decorated with transfer-printed blooms in a hibiscus or poppy style, accompanied by a matching water pitcher with a scroll handle and a smaller baluster-form jug.
– A large, deep punch or fruit bowl featuring a central motif of a phoenix or exotic bird among stylized foliage, surrounded by a diaper-patterned border with floral vignettes.
– A large oval platter and a set of plates featuring dense floral transfers including roses and daisies.
– A square covered tureen with a ladle notch and a matching ceramic ladle. The lid is decorated with a transfer-printed floral spray.
– A sauce boat, various teacups and saucers, a small footed bowl, and a small cream jug.
The decoration is primarily underglaze blue transfer printing, with some pieces showing hand-painted accents. One small saucer features a simple gold-line rim. One teacup base shows a faint blue circular mark, but the characters are not legible as a name.
