Lot 202: Georgian Style Mahogany Fret-Cut Wall Mirror with Shell Marquetry
0 views
A medium-sized wall mirror in the Georgian Chippendale style, featuring a mahogany frame with detailed fret-cut scrollwork. The cresting top and lower apron are both decorated with an inlaid marquetry patera depicting a fan or shell motif in a contrasting light wood, such as boxwood. The rectangular mirror plate is set within a moulded inner border. The fretwork extends to the sides with scroll-cut ears, characteristic of late 18th-century English designs. The reverse is finished with a wooden backing.
