Lot 199: A Pair of Framed High Relief Three Dimensional Wall Plaques Depicting Rustic Scenes
1 view
This pair of three-dimensional wall reliefs is rendered in a caricature style, depicting humorous scenes of rural life. One plaque features a young boy in overalls poaching a fish, lying beside a wooden sign which reads FISHING PROHIBITED in block lettering. The second plaque depicts two rustic male figures resting amongst trees and logs, one of whom is reclined with his boots off.
The reliefs are constructed from a molded composite material or resin, featuring deeply textured surfaces and hand-painted polychrome details in a matte finish. Each figurative scene is mounted against a dark green or brown velvet-like textile backing. The plaques are set within matching ornate frames crafted from gilded gesso and wood, each featuring a continuous scrolled and foliate border.
A small white adhesive label is present on the lower right corner of the inner frame of the left-hand plaque, though the text on it is not clearly legible. No other signatures, maker’s marks, or inscriptions are visible on the face of the artworks.
