Lot 138: Sterling Silver Two-Handled Trophy Cup with Wooden Plinth 70 gram silver not including plinth
2 views
A small sterling silver trophy cup featuring a deep rounded bowl flanked by two angular geometric handles. The cup stands on a waisted stem and a stepped square base. The bowl bears a series of struck hallmarks (photo 2), including the maker’s mark W H, a lion passant for sterling silver, a town mark which is partially obscured but appears consistent with a Newcastle bird symbol, and a lowercase date letter q. The surface of the silver shows areas of tarnish and residue from previous labels.
The cup is accompanied by a square, black-painted wooden plinth with a recessed top. The underside of the plinth retains a circular yellow and black paper label reading KENWORTHYS LTD / SILVERSMITHS / MANUFACTURERS / ASHTON-U-LYNE / BIRMINGHAM.
