Lot 136: A Collection of Edwardian and Later Silver-Mounted Glass and Silver Objects
3 views
A small group of decorative silver-mounted items and solid silver accessories. The collection includes a rectangular glass trinket box with a deep-cut diamond pattern, fitted with a repousse silver lid featuring embossed oval bosses and foliate scrolls under a scalloped rim. A cylindrical clear glass jar with a deep-cut hobnail body is topped with a circular pull-off silver lid decorated with embossed scrolls and flowers. The jar lid bears an adhesive label reading SILVER.
Also present are two circular silver pin dishes featuring pierced and scrolled foliate borders. Each dish is inset with a copper-alloy coin depicting the profile of King Edward VII facing right. The coin inscriptions include VII DEI GRA BRITT OMN REX FID DEF IND IMP. The collection is completed by a small pair of silver sugar tongs with shell-shaped grips and a plain bow handle.
Hallmarks are visible on the side of the trinket box lid, the interior bow of the sugar tongs, and in a series of punches on the rim of both pin dishes, though the specific makers and date letters are not clearly legible. The metal components show characteristic oxidation and surface tarnish consistent with solid silver.
