Lot 119: A Collection of Sterling Silver Napkin Rings and a Silver Mounted Photograph Frame
3 views
A collection of sterling silver items comprising several napkin rings of various forms and a rectangular photograph frame mount. The napkin rings include three barrel-shaped examples with curved profiles, two circular rings with straight vertical sides, and one ring of a D-shaped or wishbone design. The photograph frame is a simple rectangular mount with a flat-fronted border, designed without additional chased or embossed ornamentation.
Hallmarks are present across several pieces:
One barrel-shaped napkin ring features a set of four impressed marks in rectangular punches including the Lion Passant, a maker’s mark consisting of two characters which appear to be J.R, a symbol for an assay office, and a lowercase date letter.
A second barrel-shaped napkin ring bears four marks including the Lion Passant and a lowercase date letter that may be an m or n.
The lowest circular ring in the group shows impressions which are not legible as specific characters due to the curvature of the metal.
The photograph frame mount features hallmarks in the upper right corner; these are heavily worn but the Lion Passant is distinguishable alongside a maker’s mark consisting of two characters which are not clearly legible.
The photograph frame is presented as the silver mount only and does not include glass, a backing board, or a support strut.
