Indonesian Wayang Golek Carved Wooden Rod Puppet
Description
An Indonesian Wayang Golek rod puppet, originating from the Sundanese culture of West Java. The hand-carved wooden head depicts a character with green skin, prominent teeth, bulging eyes, and an elaborate headdress featuring intricate painted patterns in red, gold, blue, and white. The puppet is dressed in a traditional costume including a brown batik-patterned sarong skirt and a black velvet bodice decorated with metallic thread embroidery, sequins, and beadwork. A long yellow textile sash is tied around the waist. The articulated wooden arms are connected to slender wooden guide rods attached at the hands for performance. Two white rectangular adhesive labels are attached to the yellow sash; the upper label bears the number 97 and the lower label contains illegible printed text and a barcode.
