Description
A circular multi-panel leather pouf featuring an Egyptian Revival design. The North African stitched leather footstool is constructed with a radiating segmented design composed of alternating dark brown and tan leather panels surrounding a central circular medallion. The central medallion depicts a profile portrait of an ancient Egyptian figure facing right, surrounded by pseudo-hieroglyphic decorative elements. The radiating panels are tooled and embossed with various Egyptian figurative motifs, including figures in traditional stances and chariots. The embossed decorations are highlighted with applied gold-coloured metallic pigment. The sides are formed of alternating dark brown and tan leather panels decorated with tooled figures accented in gold-coloured paint. No maker’s marks or legible inscriptions are present.
