A Cased Collection of silver Hallmarked Victorian and Edwardian Personal Accessories and Cutlery
Description
A mixed collection of antique silver personal items presented in a two-tier fitted presentation case. The set includes a fork and spoon with matching handles featuring embossed scrollwork, foliate motifs, and a central shield-shaped cartouche. Accompanying these is a butter knife with a carved mother-of-pearl handle and a white-metal blade featuring engraved foliate detailing along the spine. The blade of the butter knife bears a row of four stamped rectangular punches, although the individual characters within these marks are not clearly legible. A matching button hook features an embossed white-metal handle in the same style as the cutlery attached to a tapered steel hook. The collection further includes a brass sovereign balance, a mechanical coin scale featuring circular apertures with stamped text including SOVEREIGN and HALF SOV. A circular white-metal pocket case or compact features a central engraved monogram shield surrounded by scrollwork decoration. Also present is a small pair of unadorned white-metal spring tongs and a single piece of aged paper with a handwritten ink inscription reading: With love from Sylvia. 12 Nov 1921. The items are housed in a rectangular case with a dark textured exterior and a two-tier interior lined with deep purple velvet.
