A Set of Carlton Ware Handpainted Windswept Pattern Tableware
Description
A collection of English hand-painted ceramic dinner and tea service pieces from the Australian Design range, decorated in the Windswept pattern. Each piece features a cream-coloured glaze with contrasting chocolate-brown accents to the rims, handles, and undersides. The decoration consists of stylised brown reed or grass motifs with cross-hatched detailing. The set includes large oval platters, side plates, circular and kidney-shaped bowls, and teacups with matching saucers, many exhibiting the asymmetrical forms associated with mid-century modern design. The base of the items features a brown printed backstamp within a rectangular frame reading Carlton Ware Handpainted MADE IN ENGLAND TRADE MARK REGISTERED AUSTRALIAN DESIGN. An impressed shape number 2141 is also visible on the underside of one piece. Several items retain white adhesive auction lot stickers printed 339 and smaller blue and white stickers printed 12365 on their upper surfaces (photo 1).
