TV Mirror. Weeklies Limited, 1955-1956. A Collection of Magazines.
Description
A collection of vintage British television magazines titled TV Mirror, published by Weeklies Limited. The lot comprises two substantial bundles of newsprint-style periodicals, bound in softcovers with colour photographic illustrations. The magazines are dated to the mid-1950s, with the first visible issue from January 1955 and another clearly dated 7 January 1956. The cover of the 1955 issue features a portrait of a man in a dark suit and blue tie alongside the puppet character Sooty; an adhesive white paper label is attached to the lower left, bearing a handwritten inscription in blue ink: Happy New Year – and trouble Bruin! Sooty. This issue includes features on Sir George Barnes, Sooty, and Josephine Douglas. The 1956 issue, identified as Volume 6, Number 1, features a cover portrait of Carole Carr wearing a blue floral dress and pearl jewellery, with interior features noted for Sir Gerald Kelly, Bob Monkhouse, and Shirley Eaton. The masthead TV mirror is printed in a bold white sans-serif font against a red rectangular ground in the upper left corner of each cover. Each issue was originally priced at 4d or 4 1/2d. The bundles are secured with natural twine and a red elastic cord.
