Two Italian Capodimonte Figural Groups
Description
Two decorative ceramic figurines set on contrasting bases. The first figure, an earthenware group in the Capodimonte style, depicts a seated woman in an eighteenth-century green bodice and floral-decorated skirt. She is posed next to a large, long-haired dog, possibly a setter, on a grassy mound. The group rests on a scalloped ceramic base featuring gilded scrollwork and relief-moulded acanthus leaf motifs.
The second figure, a Giuseppe Armani sculpture for Florence titled Seesaw, depicts a young girl in an orange dress and a boy in a sailor suit playing on a wooden-effect seesaw. This piece is mounted on a circular, polished wooden base. The ground is decorated with applied floral elements. An incised signature is visible on a moulded scroll-like plaque on the ceramic ground reading Gulliano B followed by a second word. The piece also features a blue crown N mark, an imitation of the historical Capodimonte factory mark.
