A Trio of Japanese Hina-ningyo Festival Dolls
Description
A set of three Japanese festival dolls, known as Hina-ningyo, traditionally used for the Hinamatsuri (Girls’ Day) festival. The central figure is a female empress or high-ranking lady, featuring an elaborate high-topped traditional hairstyle. She is dressed in a red silk hakama and an orange silk brocade uchikage outer robe, decorated with gold thread patterns including floral and crane motifs. Flanking her are two male attendant figures in seated poses, both wearing matching pale silk brocade robes with metallic gold thread patterning. The male figure on the left is rendered with a tanned complexion and a stern facial expression, while the figure on the right features a pale complexion and a neutral expression. All three figures have heads and hands constructed with a smooth, matte white gofun finish over a solid core. The male figures are depicted wearing traditional straw sandals (waraji) secured with yellow cords. The robes are intricately layered in the traditional nishiki style. No maker marks or signatures are visible on the figures.
