Lot 240: A Pressed Steel 16 Ton Cast Iron Railway Wagon Plate 1956

A mid-20th-century cast metal railway wagon builder’s plate, known as a ‘D’ plate, of oval form with two square mounting apertures. The plate is finished in black paint with raised white characters. The top line features the wagon number B573131, followed by 16 T indicating the capacity. The lower text identifies the manufacturer and production year as PRESSED STEEL 1956, above the final line which reads LOT Nº 2921. A white rectangular adhesive label is affixed to the left side, printed with SHELBYS AUCTIONEERS LOT 240 01132502626. The plate displays a textured cast finish typical of railway hardware of this period.
