Lot 44:
Mid-Century Modern Three Drawer Stationery Chest with Slatted Facade
Description
A mid-20th century compact chest of drawers, likely intended for stationery or as a bachelor’s chest. The piece is constructed with a dark-stained hardwood exterior, finished in a semi-gloss lacquer. The design is characterised by a slatted front, where each of the three drawer faces is divided into six vertical panels. Integrated horizontal wooden bars serve as the drawer pulls, purposefully designed to maintain a clean aesthetic without the use of metal or aluminium hardware. The secondary wood used for the drawer interiors is a light-coloured softwood, possibly pine or beech, with plywood bases. The drawers are assembled using simple pinned joints rather than dovetails. The unit rests on basic wooden block runners. Small rectangular white auction lot labels are present on the top and side surfaces.
