Lot 41:
Late Victorian Convertible Hardwood High Chair with Integrated Play Table
Description
An antique convertible nursery high chair of dark-stained hardwood construction, dating to the late Victorian or Edwardian period. The piece features a multi-functional design, allowing it to serve as a standard high chair or be folded down at the base to create a low chair with an attached play table. The chair is designed with a curved, shaped crest rail over a single splat back, with turned spindles supporting the armrests. The play table surface, revealed when in the low configuration, is inset with a central lithographic print depicting children playing in an outdoor setting. The table also incorporates two parallel metal rods, each carrying four multi-coloured wooden beads in yellow, blue, green, and red. The entire unit is mounted on a hinged frame with four small cast metal wheels. A small, white rectangular adhesive label with the numbers 3618 is present on the right-hand side of the backrest panel.
