Lot 380: A Polychrome Carved and Painted Wooden Figural Group of Leaping Horses

A decorative sculpture featuring a group of horses in a tiered, galloping formation. The piece is constructed from carved wood with a polychrome painted and lacquered finish. The composition depicts a group of horses of varying sizes positioned as if jumping through stylised ruyi-form clouds. Each horse is finished in a pale cream paint with black hooves, tails, and manes, further decorated with green harnesses and red floral motifs on their flanks and saddles. The dark green cloud base is detailed with white-painted scrollwork. The style is indicative of East Asian folk art traditions. A temporary inventory label bearing the handwritten characters 12709 p is affixed to the upper section of the cloud base.
