A large Japanese Imari porcelain charger from the late 19th century Meiji period. The circular plate is decorated in the traditional Imari palette of underglaze blue with overglaze iron-red and green enamels, highlighted with gilding. The central medallion features a floral arrangement including peony and chrysanthemum blossoms. This is surrounded by a wide border consisting of alternating fan-shaped and circular reserves containing various botanical motifs, including pine trees and flowering branches, set against a ground of red and gilt scrollwork. The reverse of the plate is decorated with three simple underglaze blue floral sprays. The base features a double concentric circle in underglaze blue within the unglazed footrim. A small rectangular white paper label is affixed to the front centre of the plate with the handwritten number 501.

Diameter: approximately 31 cm.
