This oil painting on board is a contemporary copy of the work titled Market of Melons (Dinnyevásár) by the Hungarian artist Lajos Deák-Ébner. The scene depicts a rustic harvest or market gathering, with several women in traditional dress seated on the ground amongst baskets of yellow melons or gourds. In the background, a male figure is positioned near a pair of oxen hitched to a wooden cart. The lower foreground features prominent prickly pear cactus pads. The painting is executed in a tonal palette with visible brushwork. The work is signed WALTER ATKINSON in black block letters in the lower right corner. It is currently unframed and has a small white adhesive label marked 501 affixed to the lower right corner.
