Description
A mid-Victorian folio edition of The Imperial Family Bible, published by Blackie & Son of Glasgow, Edinburgh, and London. This monumental volume contains the Old and New Testaments according to the Authorized Version, accompanied by original and selected notes, references, readings, chronological tables, and indexes. The work is illustrated with numerous engraved plates, including a decorative title page featuring the engraving The Giving of the Law (Exodus XXXII. 19). The book is bound in full dark leather with heavy embossing and ornate gilt-stamped decorations to the front board, featuring a central religious emblem of a cross, crown, and sunburst within a decorative border. The text block edges are gilded, and a blue velvet bookmark with gold-coloured fringed tassels is included.
